Whether you smile, snigger or laugh-so-hard-you-snort, this game will catch you in the act. Nickelodeon challenged us to create a satisfyingly silly game prototype powered by facial recognition to test your ability to hold in a laugh. In the form of a lens, the game tracks your expressions while superimposing comical animations on your face in its best attempts to tickle you. Break your composure and not only is it game over, but the game snaps a photo of you mid-laugh to save as a souvenir. Who knew computer vision had such a sense of humour?

Nickelodeon challenged MediaMonks Labs to turn the pie-throwing fun of its hit show Double Dare into a game where kids can throw pies at one another using their phones. We built a Google Cloud Anchors AR game that lets players interact with the same virtual pies and obstacles on separate devices. By placing virtual anchors on a physical surface, players set up a reference for the shared game environment that’s built around the anchors. With no need for trackable base images, we’ve opened the floor to shared AR experiences created on any surface we can drop anchor.
